RXCSF receives 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity status from the IRS! And now also Tax Exempt Status from NYS!
RXCSF has ambitious plans for XC Skiing in Rochester. Please see the “About RXCSF” link for full details. The short story is this; we now have over 300 members and donors (along with many additional members of our affiliated organizations) that are interested in improving local XC ski conditions ASAP. There is also strong demand for improved ski education programs and racer coaching. Now that we have obtained 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity status, we have begun our detailed planning to move forward. We have already started on several fronts including:
- Genesee Valley Bill Koch Youth Skiing has over 50 children participating on a weekly basis - for skiers 13 and under.
- Promotion and management of the Rochester XC Ski Expo, an annual educational event for ALL Skiers with support from local clubs, stores, lesson providers and ski areas.
- Our XCRochester skier development and racer program is meeting twice weekly and planning trips to the Keskinada Loppett and other regional and North American ski events.
- RXCSF conducts Summer training camps and weekly sessions. We also revived the Rochester tradition of Thanksgiving roller ski races.
-
We provide grooming services at Harriet Hollister Spencer Rec Area in Canadice in coordination with NYS Parks. (Note that NYS Parks will no longer allow ad-hoc grooming to occur due to potential liability issues.)
- In coordination with Monroe County Parks, we are collaborating to assure dedicated grooming at Mendon Ponds Park. We currently share the costs for a seasonal groomer and are planning to provide additional grooming equipment and signage for use by the park. We eventually plan to fully fund all grooming operations in the park to ensure they are immune from possible cuts, etc.
-
Conditions reporting via this website, the Holiday Racer Camps, and new/improved ski trails just to name a few other actions.
RXCSF needs to be financially secure to prepare to drive for the future vision. We have raised in excess of $25,000 since November 2005. We have spent/incurred liabilities during that same period for the following purposes:
- Completion of the RXCSF legal incorporation process and IRS filing as an official non-profit/tax deductible contributions organization
- Purchase of 2 snowmobiles (used Ski Doo Summit and new Ski Doo Skandik) and tracksetter for grooming (TiddTech Packer/Tracker)
- Operating expenses for grooming and general RXCSF operations – contractors, gas, oil, maintenance/repairs, insurance, office expenses, etc.
- Basic promotional programs including this website, RXCSF banner, member hats and brochures for handout
We need to improve our financial resources to grow for the future. We are currently in need of additional donations/sponsorships to support:
- Purchase of additional grooming equipment including a trailer
- Startup of educational programs
- Improved promotional programs
- Startup of new, significant XC Ski and other related events
- Eventual facility improvements including desired all-weather capabilities close to Greater Rochester population centers.
To fully achieve the future vision, it takes both monetary donors/sponsors to pay for infrastructure and volunteers to teach our sport and build our trails. If you are not already a member or sponsor, please consider joining us. Even if you are already a member, it is never too late to donate additional funds or sign up to actively help. Donations above basic membership levels are now tax deductible! In particular, we need volunteers interested in leadership positions and coaching local athletes or all ages and abilities. Please complete a membership/donation form or contact us at info@xcrochester.com if you are interested in participating. See you on the trails!
